On the 8th issue of Maritimafrica Mag, the editorial team had the privilege of meeting with Dr. Paul Adalikwu, Secretary General of MOWCA, who granted them an exclusive interview. In this feature, he shares his ambition to strengthen the confidence of member states in their common organization's ability to energize the maritime economy in West and Central Africa.
This issue’s main focus explores an innovative theme: ‘‘When the blue economy meets diplomacy’’. It is time for African Ministries of Foreign Affairs to fully embrace maritime issues—not just as matters of navigation, but as powerful levers of influence, economic sovereignty, and geopolitical strength. Defending our maritime interests also means negotiating, anticipating as well as asserting.
In addition, the publication revisits the Algiers Maritime Forum and poses key questions in its Opinion and Tribune sections:
• Why do West and Central African ports continue to lose vital revenue?
• How can Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) change the game?
• How can coastal states of the Gulf of Guinea improve coordination in combating maritime crime?
• Could the Gulf of Guinea become a testing ground for a new African model of shared maritime sovereignty?
At the heart of these pressing issues lies the human element. This edition pays tribute to those shaping the continent’s maritime renewal — most notably, it honors the memory of Rear Admiral Mohamed Lamine Fadika, a symbolic figure in African maritime governance whose vision will continue to inspire generations to come.
